The Washington State Health Care Authority is holding a series of public meetings across the state to provide details of the state’s plan to test new and innovative approaches to providing Medicaid health coverage in Washington.
The North Sound Region public forum will be held from 6 to 7:30 Wednesday, March 1 at the Skagit Valley College Multipurpose Room, 2405 E. College Way in Mt. Vernon.
The event is intended to be an opportunity for the public to engage, ask questions, and offer comments about the recently signed Medicaid Transformation Project demonstration, and special terms and conditions.
What HCA will cover
Explanation of the three initiative areas of the demonstration:
- Regional strategies for system transformation
- Service options for older adults and individuals with disabilities
- Key foundational community support services for Medicaid clients with critical needs
Registration is not required but it is encouraged. To sign up to attend the free event, click here.
The State of Washington received a signed agreement from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), providing up to $1.1 billion in incentives to launch a five-year demonstration, effective January 1, 2017, to achieve better care, better health, and better value; as well as $375 million to support services for Medicaid clients. Find details and resources on the Medicaid Transformation web page.
Long Acting Reversible Contraception (LARC) options are the most effective forms of birth control available but national research has shown that many providers do not not have the training to offer the full range of contraceptive options to their patients.
The North Sound ACH is partnering with national trainers to offer a free all-day training on LARC methods, notably insertion of a range of intrauterine devices and subdermal implants. The training will be in Mt. Vernon on Thursday, March 23, and includes the option of CMEs. To register, please fill out the form HERE.
Exact location and additional details will be sent following registration. We are prioritizing clinicians who serve the North Sound: Skagit, Snohomish, Island, San Juan and Whatcom counties. However, we will accommodate other clinicians as space is available in the order of registration.
If you have questions, please contact Lee Che LEONG at LeeChe@NorthSoundACH.org or (360) 788-6570.
The HCA reached an agreement in-principle with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) in October for a five-year Medicaid demonstration waiver. On January 9th the waiver agreement was signed. This demonstration project will allow up to $1.5 billion of federal investment to help drive Medicaid transformation — accelerating Healthier Washington’s goals of better health, better care, and lower costs. For the past 18 months there’s been a lot of talk about the Medicaid Transformation Waiver. To make sure everyone is on the same page, HCA has launched the first in a series of videos to explain the waiver. Washington Health Care Authority chief policy officer Nathan Johnson covers the basics of what the Medicaid Transformation Demonstration Waiver is, its goals, and the role it will play in Healthier Washington in the above video.
