"The Story of the Nooksack" Film
June 7, 2019 –
*Generations Forward Friends and Family*
To replace our July 9 Quarterly meeting, Generations Forward will be co-sponsoring a special opportunity on June 7.
The Story of the Nooksack
June 7, 2019, 3:30 to 6:00 p.m.
Heiner Theater, Whatcom Community College
Althea Wilson, a member of the Lummi Tribe, will be showing her film “Revitalizing Cultural Knowledge and Honoring Sacred Waters: documenting the oral history of the life on the Nooksack River”. In addition to the film, we will hear directly from Lummi members who have spent their life on the Nooksack River.
We are delighted to have this opportunity to learn more about the knowledge of the Lummi people who still fish and hold sacred the territory at the mouth of the river. This event comes just prior to the Paddle to Lummi Canoe Journey that will take place July 24-28, 2019, an event that brings together over 10,000 people and honors the unique cultural heritage of the Coast Salish people.
This is a family-friendly event! Children are encouraged to attend and snacks will be provided.
Special Thanks to the Equity Project at Whatcom Community College for co-sponsoring this event along with Generations Forward.
