Brief History

In May 2014, members of the North Sound Accountable Community of Health (North Sound ACH) Pre-Planning Group submitted a proposal to the Health Care Authority for a six-month planning grant. The North Sound region includes Snohomish, Skagit, Island, San Juan, and Whatcom Counties.

In December 2014, we delivered that document, articulating progress toward implementation of the North Sound’s common agenda. The public was offered three weeks to comment on the plan in late 2014.

In January 2015, the North Sound ACH was awarded a Pilot grant from the Health Care Authority as one of two inaugural ACH Pilot Communities.

In June 2015, the North Sound ACH submitted an application for ACH Designation and was designated by the Health Care Authority as Washington’s first ACH on July 1, 2015.

In Summer 2016 the North Sound ACH began its transition to independent entity by incorporating as a Washington nonprofit corporation. In Spring 2017 the North Sound ACH will appoint its first Board of Directors, moving from the Governing Body structure it has used for the past two years.
